Duro-Last Roofing, the world’s largest manufacturer of prefabricated roofing systems is looking for a Quality Engineer for their Quality Control Department located at their Corporate Headquarters in Saginaw, Michigan. Duro-Last Roofing is part of a multi-faceted business operation, known as JRB Enterprises, that includes Plastatech Engineering, Ltd, Tri-City Vinyl, Inc.; Oscoda Plastics, Inc.; TIP-TOP Screw Manufacturing, Inc.; and EXCEPTIONAL Metals.

Position Responsibilities:
Evaluates and ensures that all incoming and outgoing materials that make up the Duro-Last single ply membrane meet internal/external specification requirements
Supports all departments in Duro-Last and other JRB Companies in quality related efforts
Investigates quality incidents and documents results of testing and reporting
Uses Company’s electronic databases for documentation of quality related data and employs statistical methods to measure and analyze
Develops, directs and implements quality control training for personnel
Supervises projects involving cross-functional teams
Promotes continuous improvement through Six Sigma and other applicable tools and methodologies

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering(Mechanical or Industrial)
Minimum of 5 years in Quality within a manufacturing environment
Experience in statistical analysis using Minitab and quality improvement tools including Control Charts, SPC, Process Capability and DOE’s
Six Sigma Green Belt or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer
Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts and practices
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and make data supported decisions
Technical writing, computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office products, math/statistical skills, analytical aptitude and mechanical ability are critical to this position
Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Summary: In this role, the Quality Assurance Manager will manage a department of professionals, directing efforts in quality programs, implementing principles such as six sigma, Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, etc. Develop practices and policies that related to corporate quality procedures. Look into existing quality programs and determine if they are up to date. If not, then implement measures that will improve quality levels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Implement, create, audit, and coach Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, TS 16949).
  • Collect and monitor all quality documents.
  • Track performance and monitor unit progress objectively weekly and monthly based on internal key indicators required by organization.
  • Sampling control points for analysis.
  • Conduct daily audits of product. In addition to developing action plans to correct areas of non-compliance. Support leadership and with inspection readiness, coach unit before, during and after all external quality. Develop monitor all action items resulting from an audit.
  • Provide general and specific training programs designed to address and resolve quality assurance and production issues, Quality orientation training for new management and hourly hires.
  • Supervise delivery and quality assurance of tubular products.
  • Conduct local vendor audits.
  • Implement tools to promote internalization and standardization of quality,
  • Manage all direct reports, coaching to obtain maximum performance and results.
  • Report to Director of Operations, and Plant Manager
  • Broad understanding of Customer Service Activities and individual customer quality requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 3 to 4 employees in the Quality Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

5-10 years in a similar field. Must have recent experience in the automotive industry as a quality assurance professional. A significant number of those years should have been spent in a supervisory role. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a field related to quality or manufacturing. Knowledge of Six Sigma, Zero Defects, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement, TS, ISO Quality Systems, statistical process controls.

Bachelor Degree in engineering, or equivalent technical work experience.

Experience in Non-ferrous Alloys preferred.

5-7 years experience with Quality Management System/Quality Assurance,

Minimum of 3 years managing others, and experience in a team based management environment. Competent to implement, and monitor standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with required guidelines.

Competent to plan, manage and review annual budgets for operating expenses.

Strong presentation and training skills.

Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills
